LWLC courses can be completed on a standard 3 month tourist visa and so do not normally need a international student visa. However, if you do require one, full details of visa and permit requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying, and reporting requirements are available through the New Zealand Immigration Service, and can be viewed on their website at http://www.immigration.govt.nz.
You must present evidence of a valid passport and visa/permit before your course start date.
It is against the law to study in New Zealand without a valid immigration visa or permit.
New Zealand privacy laws say that the Centre can only give information about learners to other people if learners agree. Sometimes the Centre does need to discuss learners' attendance, work, progress and attitudes with other people. Learners must agree that the Centre may decide, when it is necessary and appropriate, to discuss these matters with: centre staff and counsellors; doctors or similar; government agencies; parents or other people paying for the course; agents; homestay families; other schools; universities etc.
1. The Centre is closed on New Zealand public holidays or holidays in place of these days. There is no refund of fees or crediting of fees for public holidays. See http://www.ers.dol.govt.nz/holidays_act_2003/dates/2006_9.html for a full listing of New Zealand holidays. (Note: this does not include local anniversary days)
2. At Christmas/New Year, the Centre is closed for approximately 4 weeks, from the Monday before Christmas until the 3rd Monday in January.
3. If learners wish to take a holiday during the course, the Centre may move the fees paid to later dates. Learners should read the information on holidays displayed at the Centre for full details.
Lake Wanaka Language Centre has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students published by the Minister of Education. Copies of the Code are available on request from this institution or from the New Zealand Ministry of Education website at

The accommodation arrangement fee will be charged for home stays. Other forms of accommodation cannot be arranged directly through Lake Wanaka Language Centre but we have assessed the providers on our websites to ensure they provide industry standard level of service. We can introduce you to the owner but all matters relating to the tenancy and to payment of rent/fees are entirely between learners and owner.
Lake Wanaka Language Centre does not accept liability for any incidents that happen outside the school. However, Lake Wanaka Language Centre, in line with the Code of Practice, will only book learners with, or recommend, accommodation providers that have been assessed for quality management and risk management policies and that meet their industry standard.

9.1 Placement
Self assessment—Learners are asked to assess their English using the Europass Language Portfolio (ELP) at http://europass.cedefop.eu.int/. You can tell us your ability with English reading, writing, listening and speaking.
It is also part of the school’s philosophy to recognize all of your English language experiences. Please include them all in your ELP
9.2 Ongoing
An assessment will be held in class each Friday. This assessment will be task based.
Learners will be given an “achieved” or “not achieved” mark. If you get a “not achieved” you can discuss this with your tutor. You can also complete out-of-class extension exercises at anytime to improve your grade. You need a 70% achieved outcome to move from one level to the next (e.g. B1 to B2).
9.3 Graduation
When you leave Lake Wanaka Language Centre you should recreate your ELP passport document (http://europass.cedefop.eu.int/) and add your Lake Wanaka Language Centre results.
